Census 2010 is coming soon  Share
The Census Bureau will soon be sending out the 2010 census forms. Residents can expect to receive the forms in March. This year, the forms are different from previous census counts. There are only 10 questions on the form, and it will take only a few minutes to complete it. The Census Bureau is required by the U.S. Constitution to count all residents of the country every 10 years. If forms are not returned, the Census Bureau will send out a postcard reminding residents to complete and send in the forms. If no response is received, the bureau will send out census takers in May. This census campaign costs the government $300 million, and sending out additional census takers costs additional money. Many people, especially immigrants, are wary of the census because they think the information can be used to challenge their stay in the U.S.
By law Ð and this must be stressed Ð the information collected by the census bureau cannot be shared with any other governmental entity or organization. This year, the census bureau faces many challenges. Some of these challenges are caused by the large number of foreclosures of homes and the movement of residents. The information gathered by the census is used to determine the boundaries of congressional districts and the allocation of more than $400 billion each year to villages, towns and states. It is important for individuals to complete the forms and send them back to the census bureau. Everyone is concerned about their towns, the infrastructure of those towns, their schools and hospitals. Without the information in the census, not much can be done. Beecher and Washington Township face many challenges. If the residents of the village and township fail to give an accurate count of how many people live here, the township and the village will find it hard to do the things that need to be done and are being requested by the residents. Beecher has formed Ð in conjunction with the U.S. Census Bureau Ð the Village of Beecher Census 2010 Complete Count Committee. Residents of the township and the village will be hearing more from the committee in the coming weeks. The committee has one request: ''Please complete your census forms and send them in as soon as you can.''
