On Thursday, about 137 students were absent, and on Friday, about 150
were absent. Friday morning, attendance actually improved; however, students went
home throughout the day.
Superintendent of Schools Kevin Carey says many are experiencing
flu-like symptoms.
One ill student went to a hospital emergency room. A physician thought
the student may be suffering from viral meningitis. However, lab
results came back negative for the condition. Dr. Alpesh Patel of the Will County Health Department informed the
school of the results Friday morning.
Administrators have not planned to close school. However, Carey says
they are ensuring that custodians take proper measures to clean the
facility.
They also sent a letter to all parents and guardians about
the matter, contacted the Will County Health Department and postponed
after school activities, according to a press release issued by Carey.
"The communication between our district and parents is a valuable
resource to the well being of our students," Carey stated. "As always,
the health and safety of our student body continues to be our
priority."
