Services were held Monday morning for Phyllis D. Piper, 82, of Manteno, formerly of Peotone. Mrs. Piper died Thursday, October 9, 2008, at Joliet Area Community Hospice in Joliet. Born June 17, 1926, in Kankakee, she was a homemaker and had also been employed at Johnson's Greenhouse in Peotone. She was a member of Peotone United Methodist Church and enjoyed needlecraft and ballroom dancing. Mrs. Piper is survived by her husband, Howard L. Piper, whom she married on June 15, 1946, in Kankakee; two daughters, Pamela K. Wuerstle of Joliet and Cindy L. (Keith) Hawthorne of Pueblo West, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Daniel, David and Amanda Wuerstle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Hazel Kegebein Allison. The funeral was conducted October 13 at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone. The Rev. Timothy Mitchell officiated. Burial was in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. Memorials may be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Peotone United Methodist Church.
