A PERFECT 5.0 grade point average has landed Emily Carstens at the top the list of the Class of 2015. At the same time, she has earned the right to be called April Board of Education Academic Student of the Month in District 207-U. The Peotone High School freshman ranks first in her class of 161 students, is active in softball, basketball and band. Outside of school, Emily participates in a youth group at her church and is a member of the Team Oak Stars Travelling Softball team. She also enjoys spending time with her family, listening to music and honing her pitching skills. After graduation from high school, she plans to attend college to pursue a degree in physical therapy. She also hopes to play softball in college. During the April meeting of the Peotone School Board, President Tara Robinson presented a certificate of recognition to Emily as her family looked on.

Tiffany LaPapa, the room coordinator (room mom) for Ms. Zaker's first grade class at Peotone Elementary School, wanted to have the students be involved in a simple humanitarian project. Since February symbolizes love and compassion, she had every student make Valentine cards and goody bags for the Veteran's at the Veteran's Hospital in Manteno, as a simple act of kindness to show compassion and thankfulness to all who have served the nation.
