Members of one of the Navy's elite fighting groups meet once a month at the Tinley Park VFW on Oak Park Ave. The meeting starts at 1300. There is a free lunch for first-time submarine veterans. The group is involved in community service, with a strong leaning toward assisting less fortunate veterans. Activities include visiting veterans at local Veteran's Home's and volunteer work at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. They also assist in tours of the German submarine, U-505, at the Museum of Science and Industry. The group has an active social program. Anyone who is qualified in submarines, or merely has an avid interest in submarines, is invited to check us out. For more information, call Don at 708 479-5150 or DJSCHLEGS@aol.com

Tiffany LaPapa, the room coordinator (room mom) for Ms. Zaker's first grade class at Peotone Elementary School, wanted to have the students be involved in a simple humanitarian project. Since February symbolizes love and compassion, she had every student make Valentine cards and goody bags for the Veteran's at the Veteran's Hospital in Manteno, as a simple act of kindness to show compassion and thankfulness to all who have served the nation.
