» Russell News Service - Manteno News - November 27, 2008

Manteno (1-3) went 0-3 at the Beecher Ladycat Fall Classic on November 21 and 22. The Panthers will take on Peotone in the Tournament Consolation bracket.

Game one saw the Panthers lose to Bremen 36-24 as the Manteno offense sputtered. They shot just 19% from the floor, but they did manage to lead 7-4 after the first quarter. After a Brave basket to open the second quarter, they went on a 6-0 run to lead 13-6. But that's as good as it would get. From there they managed just 2 more points in the quarter and Bremen closed to within one at the half, Manteno leading 15-14.

A basket by Amanda Murphy to open the second quarter put the Panthers up 17-14, but the Braves closed the quarter with a 6-2 run to take a 20-19 lead after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter Bremen started getting the ball inside to 5'11" Julie Velcich (14 points) and 5'11 Raquilla Williams (8 points) and the Braves pulled away, outscoring Manteno 16-5 in the final quarter to win 36-24.

Dana Wynn and Haley Hatalla led the Panthers with eight points each.
